Moore's Law and the Journey Ahead: Integrated Circuits in Extreme Environments of Automotive, Satellite, and Field-Deployed Electronics
Muhammad A. Alam is the Jai N. Gupta Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Purdue University. Before joining Purdue in 2004, he worked at Bell Laboratories (1995–2003), where he pioneered foundational reliability models—including NBTI and TDDB—that are now embedded in global semiconductor qualification standards. At Purdue, his research focuses on the physics, performance limits, and reliability of advanced transistors, biosensors, and solar cells. A pioneer in open education, his nanohub.org courses on reliability physics have reached over 450,000 students and engineers worldwide. Professor Alam is a Fellow of IEEE, APS, and AAAS, and his honors include the IEEE Kiyo Tomiyasu Medal and the IEEE Simon Min Sze Education Award.
